New amnesty coming for the collection of tax bills?

The scrapping quater is collecting less than expected and, for this reason, the Government is evaluating whether it is the case to propose a new amnesty for the tax bills. The subsidized definition was supposed to be the flagship measure of fiscal peace promoted by the Government with the 2023 Budget Law, but although it is bringing in revenues, these are lower than those initially estimated.

The fourth installment of the scrappingwhich expired on May 31st (but could be paid without increases by June 5th) ended with a collection of 200 million euros100 less than had been expected.

The Government is therefore evaluating whether to grant a further possibility that would allow theaccess for those who did not join in time to the scrapping of to be able to repent and spontaneously pay what is necessary to pay off debts with the tax authorities.

Scrapping quarter in slow motion

The facilitated definition provided by the 2023 Budget Law allows you to regularize the tax bills for the 2000/2022 period and to pay the amount due, with the cancellation of penalties and interest, in a maximum of 18 quarterly installments.

Even though the offer was very advantageous for those who had debts with the tax authorities, at each deadline they were fewer and fewer taxpayers pay what they owe. Even if the consequence of not honoring the payment of an installment entails the forfeiture of the scrapping, as the months pass, more and more people stop paying the installments.

According to initial estimates, they are over half of those who had applied to join the fourth scrappage scheme not having respected the timetable of the repayment plan. The risk these people run is that of receiving a payment notice for the entire remaining unpaid amount (and this time increased by penalties and interest).

Even if those who made the quater scrappage lapse should be left to their fate (pay the bill in full), it seems the majority of the Government would like to think about a new amnesty which allows those who have defaulted during these first four installments to re-enter the repayment plan.

The scrapping with the first four installments guaranteed a revenue of 3.2 billion euros, against the 5.3 billion expected and calculated on the membership applications submitted and accepted.

Scrapping, those who have expired will be able to return to the repayment plan

The Government’s intentions are to do so return to scrap as many taxpayers as possible and for this very reason it would seem that a new amnesty is being studied which not only goes to recover those who have not paid the installmentsbut which also involves who had not joined in June 2023 and now he wants to repent.
