Selex becomes the first player in Italian large-scale retail trade

Selex he filed 2023 with a sales up by 11% to 20.2 billion euros and thus became the first player in the Italian large-scale retail trade. His market share stands at 15.1%. This success was underlined in a passage of the press release issued to illustrate the performance of the last twelve months: “In October the Selex group will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a major event, a milestone that comes at a time of continuous expansion and recognition from part of the market, also coinciding with the group reaching first position in terms of market share within the large Italian distribution”.

During 2023, the performance of the company was particularly brilliant Mdd Selex which, thanks to its 7,900 references, achieved a leap of 19.8%. The role of the segment is also significant cash&carry, which recorded growth of 14.2%. The good time of the group led by Maniele Tasca it also continued in the first five months of this year, which showed a progress of 5.4%, compared to a more contained +1.1% for the entire national sector, as highlighted by the NiQ data.

Based on management forecasts, the whole of 2024 should close with growth of 4.5% to 21.1 billion euros. To achieve this objective Selex has put in place a investment plan of 540 million euros, which will lead to the opening of 65 new stores and the renovation of 94 existing stores. “The first months of 2024 highlight a phase of weakness for consumption – states Maniele Tasca, general director of the Selex group – Our priority is to reassure our customers through the most convenient prices and promotions possible. At the same time we are committed to developing innovative programs capable of supporting and expanding the distinctiveness of our companies, with the main objective of encouraging the loyalty of our customers”.

The Selex shareholders’ meeting also confirmed Alessandro Revello (Dimar) to the presidency of the group for the next three years, appointing the new board of directors which will be composed of the two vice presidents Marcello Cestaro (Unicomm group) e Marco Odolini (Italbrix) and the six directors Dario Brendolan (MaxiDì), William Camilletti (The Abundance), Laura Gabrielli (Gabrielli warehouses), Francesco Murgia (Superemme), Giancarlo Panizza (Rialto) e Francesco Pomarico (Megamark).
