they are not the numbers we expected

One year after the presentation it is already time to take stock of the adventure of the Fiat 600e on the European market. The electric crossover of the Italian company, produced in Poland, in the Tychy plant on the same line as the Jeep Avenger and the Alfa Romeo Junior, does not seem to have convinced European motorists. The causes of the failure are unclear but the numbers leave no room for other interpretations. The commercial launch of the Fiat 600e was well below expectations and the sales for the first five months of 2024 in Europe can only be defined as disappointing.

Negative results for electricity

Dataforce data released by Autonews illustrates the results of the Fiat 600e in Europe. The New Fiat 600e recorded results well below expectations, with a decidedly negative first part of 2024. From January to May, in fact, the Italian company’s electric crossover scored 4,408 units sold in Europe and just 882 units during the month of May.

To these results, we must add the 605 units sold of the Fiat 600 Hybrid, which arrived on the market only a few months ago and is ready to grow over the next few months. The result obtained by Fiat’s B-segment crossover is, therefore, very disappointing unconvincing results of electricity in Italy are not enough to justify this collapse.

Fiat’s objectives were certainly different. The internal competition from its sister vehicle the Jeep Avenger could also have weighed in, but it doesn’t seem to have any problems convincing customers. In the meantime, the Fiat 600e was also born Abarth 600e.

The best-selling Fiats are others

Currently, the best-selling Fiats are also the oldest. In fact, the Eterna leads the sales ranking of Fiat models Fiat Panda which totaled 63,030 units sold between January and May 2024 in Europe. Second position for Fiat 500 (with mild hybrid engine) with 38,120 units sold. On the podium there is Fiat 500 electric with over 14,000 units sold. Fourth, however, is the Fiat 500Xwith just over 13,000 units sold, and fifth place Fiat Tipo, with 4,732 units sold. Only in sixth position do we find the Fiat 600.

How much does electricity cost

Cost could be a problem for the Fiat 600e. The crossover from the Italian company, in fact, is now available on the market with a starting price of 35,950 euros which rises to over 40,000 euros for the top of the range version, La Prima. Both versions are equipped with an electric motor 156 HPcombined with a 54 kWh. The price list of the 600e is very close to that of the electric Jeep Avenger, which starts from 39,400 euros, and the electric Alfa Romeo Junior, arriving on the market with prices from 39,500 euros.

The positioning of the 600e, therefore, may be wrong and may have reduced the model’s ability to generate sales volumes. Fiat, to revive the sales of its model, could take action with a new entry level version which, thanks to a lower price, could have greater opportunities to guarantee satisfactory sales for a model which, at least for now, has not convinced customers motorists from all over Europe.
