2.5 million want to sell to survive

Too many expenses to renovate the house, better to sell it. Although it entered into force less than a month ago, the new EU directive ongreen houses” is already causing panic among citizens in the Bel Paese. According to the survey commissioned by Facile.it to mUp Research and Bilendi, they are almost 2.5 million Italians who have already decided to put their home up for sale precisely to avoid possible future renovation costs. But even those who intend to buy now are influenced by the new norm.

Which was decided, and approved amidst criticism from various countries, by the top levels of Brussels with the aim of progressively reducing the CO2 emissions of the EU real estate stock to achieve total decarbonisation by 2050 through the redevelopment of the European building stock and improving energy efficiency. According to the results of the survey, to date there are around 3 million Italians looking for a property they own changed its criteria of selection by limiting the search only to efficient homes, not affected by the EU directive. A widespread trend mostly in the North West, where the percentage reaches 60%, compared to a national average of 50%. Then there are those who choose to do the opposite: around 800 thousand Italians are in fact trying to buy a home with low energy performance, hoping to save on the price. A very popular line of thought in the regions of Central Italy (18% compared to a national average of 13%).

We remind you that, according to initial estimates, the EU directive on green homes could concern almost 5 million residential properties in Italy, with renovation costs varying between 20 and 55 thousand euros per family. Important figures that obviously they scare millions of citizens which risk leaving not only wallets high and dry but also depleting “the treasures” accumulated over decades of work. It must be said, however, that not everyone is worried: 15% of the sample interviewed, for example, declared that they are confident that there will be state aid to cover the restructuring costs. Finally, there are those who believe – there are around 2.9 million – that this is the norm it will never become operational. Maybe. In the meantime, let everyone save themselves
