PosteMobile launches 5G: new 5G option to enable offers, here’s how much it costs – MondoMobileWeb.it | News | Telephony

In these last hours, the virtual operator PosteMobile launched the new one 5G optionwhich with a monthly cost to be added to your mobile network offer, allows you to obtain access to fifth generation networkwithout no speed limit compared to Vodafone.

First, please remember that PosteMobile is a virtual operator Full MVNO owned by PostePay. Starting from June 2021, both for new and existing customers, the operator uses the Vodafone network, so far only in 2G, 4G and 4G+, with speeds of up to 300 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload.

Starting yesterday 16 June 2024, as indicated in the tariff transparency document, as mentioned, the new 5G optionwith which customers, by paying an additional monthly cost, can enable their mobile network offer to fifth generation network.

In this way, as has also happened with other operators over the last few months, PosteMobile also becomes one of the operators with a virtual license (MVNO) in Italy to make access to the 5G network available to its customers, in this case that of Vodafone Italia.

As already reported by MondoMobileWeb, this is one of the novelties that had been announced by Poste Italiane last 20 March 2024on the occasion of the presentation of new five-year strategic plan.

New 5G Option for new and existing PosteMobile customers

With the new one 5G optionavailable at a cost of 3 euros per monththe virtual operator PosteMobile therefore allows you to obtain qualification for the 5G network with its mobile network offers, which in this way allow you to reach a speed up to 2 Gbps download and 200 Mbps upload.

In any case, as the operator points out, it is necessary to use the fifth generation network a smartphone compatible with the 5G network, having enabled 5G navigation in the smartphone settings, and being in an area covered by a 5G network.

At the moment, PosteMobile does not offer any offers with 5G includedtherefore, to obtain 5G, this new option must necessarily be activated.

As indicated on the operator’s website, on the page dedicated to the new 5G Option, the latter is available both for private customers and VAT holders, and can be activated on tariff plans and options that include data traffic.

New PosteMobile customers can activate this new option from the Post Officeat the same time as requesting a new SIM both in portability and with a new number.

As regards existing customers, the 5G Option can be activated from the following channels: from the Postepay App in the section “Customize your Plan”; online in the Personal Area of the PosteMobile website; by sending a free SMS with the text “YES 5G” to the number 40.71.160; by contacting Customer Service on the toll-free number 160.

It is right to specify that, for new SIMs requested from online channels (from the PosteMobile website, from the telephone channel and from the Postepay App), the 5G Option can only be activated after the activation of the new SIMthrough the after-sales channels just indicated.

As indicated on the site, the 5G Option is not compatible with PosteMobile SIMs activated before 14 July 2014 and not replaced with a FULL PosteMobile SIM. In this case, if the customer intends to activate the option, he must necessarily request a free replacement of the SIM at the Post Office.

How much does this new option cost

As already mentioned, currently the new 5G option is offered at a price equal to 3 euros per monthwithout any activation cost.

Consequentially, in the case of offers that provide for a multi-monthly renewalthe cost of the option becomes as below:

  • 9 euros for renewal plans quarterly;
  • 18 euros for renewal plans half yearly;
  • 36 euros for renewal plans annual.

As indicated by PosteMobile, the fee for the new 5G Option is charged on the SIM telephone credit at the time of activation, then on the same day of renewal of the basic offer.

If the 5G Option is activated on a different day than the day of renewal of the basic offer, the first fee is calculated based on the days that elapse between the activation of the 5G Option and the day of renewal of the basic offer (for example, if the basic monthly renewal offer is renewed on June 30th and the 5G Option is activated on June 22nd, upon activation you pay only for the days from activation to renewal, i.e. 0.90 euros).

In the case of a tariff plan with multi-monthly renewalhowever, the maximum amount of the first fee for the 5G Option will be equal to 3 euros multiplied by the number of months remaining until the renewal of your basic offer, up to a maximum of 36 euros in the case of an annual plan (for example, if the basic six-monthly renewal offer is renewed on 1st September and the 5G Option is activated on 1st June, upon activation you only pay for three months of use, i.e. 9 euros).

What happens in case of insufficient credit on the PosteMobile SIM

As PosteMobile specifies on its website, on the new dedicated page, the customer must always ensure that they have sufficient credit to renew both their basic offer and the 5G Option. The renewal of your basic offer, in any case, is always managed in priority over the 5G Option.

If the credit is insufficient both for the renewal of the basic offer and for the 5G Optionclearly both will be suspended.

In case of insufficient credit to renew the basic offer, but sufficient only to renew the 5G Optionboth will be suspended anyway.

Instead, in the case of sufficient credit only to renew the basic offer, but insufficient to simultaneously renew the 5G Optionthe basic offer will be renewed and the 5G Option will be deactivated.

In the latter case, it is possible to reactivate the 5G Option at any time by paying only for the days between the day of reactivation and the next renewal of your basic offervia the channels indicated above for existing customers of the operator.

In the case of activation of the 5G Option on Postepay Connect tariff plansthe first charge will be made on the remaining credit of the SIM, while the subsequent ones will be charged on the Postepay Evolution Card associated with the SIM, at the same time as the renewal of the chosen Connect tariff plan.

In case of insufficient credit for both the renewal of the basic offer and the 5G Option, the basic offer will be suspended until there is sufficient credit to cover the cost of the offer itself, while the 5G Option will be deactivated. In this case, to reuse the 5G Option it is necessary to proceed with a new activation.

If, however, again for customers with Postepay Connect, the credit is sufficient only for the renewal of the 5G Option, but insufficient for the renewal of the basic offer, the basic offer will be suspended while the 5G Option will be deactivated.

As already mentioned, in this case it is possible to reactivate the 5G Option at any time, paying only for the days between the day of reactivation and the next renewal of your basic offervia the channels indicated above for existing customers of the operator.

5G icon on smartphone and other info

If the PosteMobile customer has access to the 5G network, they will see the indication “5G” on their phone.

However, as the operator explains, when you have the 5G option active but the smartphone is on standby, the icon representing the connection technology will still be 4Gbut as soon as you start making traffic with your smartphone again, if the area is covered by the service, the icon will return to representing 5G. As PosteMobile explains, this is standard behavior of the operating system.

If the customer has the 5G Option active, can also use the 5G network in countries in the European Unionwhere available, at no additional cost and under the same conditions of use applied throughout the national territory.

Finally, it should be noted that you can deactivate the 5G Option for free at any time from the Postepay App, online in the Personal Area of the PosteMobile website, by sending a free SMS with the text “NO 5G” to the number 40.71.160or by calling Customer Service on the toll-free number 160.

After the deactivation request, the option will remain available until the end of the already paid period, but will not be renewed. In any case, it will be possible to reactivate it through the available channels.
