CharIN, here is the protocol for universal Plug & Charge

CharIN, the leading global association for charging systems, introduces the Open Plug & Charge Network Communication (OPNC) protocol. It is the new standard for charging functionality with automatic vehicle recognition. Therefore without apps, RFID cards or other activation and payment systems.

So far, Plug & Charge providers have not used a common protocol. Together with the other members of the task force, the electric vehicle industry will now speak a joint and unified language. The first milestone towards global standardization is the now published specification of the OPNC protocol.

This API (application programming interface) protocol is the innovative enabler for vendor-neutral Plug & Charge. Insure Multi-V2G-PKI interoperability (public key infrastructure) e Multi-MO-PKI (mobility operator) based on ISO 15118.

The OPNC protocol is designed for global charging ecosystems. AND’ open and international and will be able to guarantee electric car owners a smooth and standardized charging experience around the world. Interoperable for all actors of the public charging ecosystem.

The CharIN OPNC task force with its global development team was also able to extend the OPNC protocol to the requirements of the North American market.

The first members of the CharIN OPNC task force will integrate the OPNC protocol into their charging infrastructure for existing electric vehicles. Future developments of the OPNC protocol will include measures to increase its scalability and efficiency to improve the interoperability of Multi-V2G-PKI ecosystems.

The CharIN OPNC Task Force includes: ABB E-mobility; Mercedes-Benz; AMPECO.; NIO; Germany; Autocrypt Co; Octopus Energy Limited; BMW Group; Penta Security Systems; BP International; Phoenix; ChargePoint; RENAULT; e-clearing.net; Rivian Automotive; Elaad; Robert Bosch; Electrify America; Shell Global Solutions; EnBW Mobility; KG⋅SMART/LAB; Exicom Tele-Systems; Stellantis; Fastned; STMicroelectronics; Ford Works; EV SWITCH; General Motors; Tesla; Gireve; tinq+; Hubject; Toyota Motor Europe; Irdeto Security; Trilogue; Jaguar Land Rover; Lghtning MutliCom; VEDECOM; Volkswagen; Lucid Motors; Volvo Technology Corporation.

There Charging Interface Initiative eV (CharIN) brings together over 300 companies. It is the largest global association promoting the adoption of electric vehicles by developing reliable and universal charging solutions.
