Stealing sensitive data through a fake 300 euro Shein voucher. This is the new scam that is deceiving hundreds of users on the web. With the promise of winning a ticket to spend on Chinese e-commerce, some criminals are deceiving a large number of people online, and then stealing credit and prepaid card data.

Fake lawyer (16 years old) steals 50 thousand euros in jewelery and credit cards from an elderly woman with the bail trick

The scam

Using the reputation of Shein e-commerce, some attackers are defrauding hundreds of people online with the fake promise of a voucher worth 200, 300 or 500 euros to spend on the well-known Chinese site. By exploiting the brand’s images and imitating its communication style, scammers send messages in the form of emails, social media advertisements or Whatsapp chains, then directing users to a fake site. Here, through an “exclusive summer competition”, victims participate in a survey or prize game, with the promise of winning the long-awaited voucher. At that point, once all the steps have been completed and after having “won” the ticket, the scammers send users to a site where they can enter their credit card details to collect the prize.

A prize, this, that doesn’t actually exist. The card details entered, including CVV and all codes, are in fact collected on an unsafe site, which allows fraudsters to make unauthorized online purchases.

Shein’s response

Given the spread of this scam, Shein Italia has decided to intervene, communicating the presence of this fake voucher on its social channels and offering advice on how to identify and avoid such deceptions. All this, reiterating that every e-commerce communication comes exclusively from official accounts or email addresses ending with @shein.com or @sheingroup.com.

Furthermore, as specified by the company, Shein would never request payment via a mobile payment app. Other tips include looking for phishing signs, verifying the sender’s identity and reporting the scam to the e-commerce customer service.

Shein’s real competitions

In reality, Shein has been organizing competitions for some time that offer good discounts as prizes, but always through official channels and guaranteeing the security of your personal and financial information.
