Knowing how to read the pay slip correctly is essential to avoid receiving future surprises: what employers implement.
Work as an employee it should offer various securities, including a salary in line with the hours worked, as well as the accrual of leave, paid holidays and the accumulation of a small treasure called severance pay. In all of this, the worker does not need a personal accountant, since the employer takes care of everything in an excellent manner.
This is how it should be, unfortunately, however, some realities are not so honest. For this reason it is essential to have knowledge, even if minimal, of the pay slip. In this way it is possible to understand whether all rights are paid, as well as whether theYour salary reflects the actual contractual agreements.
The Payslip Dictionary
Obviously we won’t get technical, but to get a general picture you need to know the basics. In addition to the company and worker data, the pay slip usually contains the actual salary, i.e. the part that shows how much you actually earn, including base salary, bonuses, overtime and other benefits. In the social security and tax data section, however, it is possible to view social security and tax withholdings, such as INPS and IRPEF contributions. An important part is also that relating to TFR, i.e. severance pay: this section shows the details on a fund for the employee’s future from the moment the employment relationship ends. Finally, an important detail, net salary: the actual sum that is received, with the amounts of withholdings and the gross amount paid by the employer.
Pay attention to this detail on your pay slip
This sheet, although complex, is simpler and more linear than you might think. However, just as easily, some employers tamper with some information. First of all it is necessary to read how much you actually receive in gross amount, the type of contract and the hours marked as worked on the pay slip.
Many owners of private companies opt to stipulate fake part-time contracts, thus saving on the individual employee. Although it is true that this practice implies fewer contributions and taxes for the employers themselves, it becomes harmful for the unsuspecting worker.
If, for example, a pay slip indicates a 30-hour contract and 650 euros net, the employee who actually receives 1,300 he won’t see no difference in his salary, but this way contributions, holidays, leave and severance pay will be halved. The worst thing? Not everyone is aware of this.
But there’s more. Sometimes the working day is paid with paid time off: the salary is the same, but the time off and holidays are abused by the employer. The wording in question is located at the bottom right, in the large box of the monthly description. In short, first of all it is necessary to always check this precious document and, in the case of hypothetical anomalies, rely on an employment center that will be able to provide adequate support.
