A protagonist of the Italian theater of the twentieth century, seen, experienced and narrated by an actress, now director of the Teatro Biondo in Palermo, who, precisely in her name, has “proposed to the new generations practices and forms of acting that have made people speak Italian theater in the world. A story that began with the Piccolo in Milan, where important productions were born that reached theaters throughout Europe.

Pamela Villoresi and Giorgio Strehler, two lives intertwined to write among the most beautiful pages of Italian theatre

«There are two crucial reasons that link the name of Pamela Villoresi to that of Giorgio Strehler and to the great Italian tradition of the twentieth century. – he writes in the preface Anna Sicafull professor of Performing Arts at the University of Palermo – fueling theatrical philology: her unparalleled career as an actress and her uniqueness and exquisiteness in the art of the stage.

It has managed to preserve and transmit the ancient Italian scenic art, revitalized in the forms and contexts of our time. The roles she has held over the last five decades are excellent examples of our best tradition and contemporaneity. The productions that starred her wrote the most beautiful pages in the history of Italian theater in the second half of the twentieth century and in these first decades of the new century. By acting, Pamela Villoresi mixed art and knowledge to embellish the material of which the theater is made, the inventio, so that the theater that remains and is handed down is a precious deposit of knowledge for future generations».

Pamela Villoresi embodies and transmits Strehler’s theatrical art

«With her first debut in Harlequin, her life as an actress intertwined with that of the impetuous, brilliant, disciplined, passionate, rigorous director, and she learned his stage language. From his memories emerges the reason why the common work of the director and the actress determines a “visible concept”: the concept, i.e. the director’s critical judgment, is made visible on stage by the actress’s interpretation. Both, director and actress, show themselves as subjects and objects of creation and of the matter on which the scene feeds, writing and acting of it».

The author and Professor Sica will be present at the presentation, which will take place within the program of the Summer Season of the Teatro Biondo. Journalist Gilda Sciortino will talk to them.
