After the successful participation in “Una Marina di Libri”, the independent publishing festival held in recent days at the Villa Filippina Park in Palermo, the writer Giankarim De Caro will meet the readers of Cefalù on Thursday 13 June at the “Spazio Cultura”, underway Roger 131.

The Palermo author, who made his debut six years ago with the very successful “Malavita”, acclaimed by the public and critics, will be the protagonist of a cultural afternoon dedicated to his literary production, recently enriched with a new, exciting chapter: “Tascian Novel”. Sicilian erotic”, already sold out despite having been released in bookstores just over a month ago.

The initiative in Cefalù, organized and promoted by the cultural association “Mariposa” and sponsored by the municipal administration, will see the presentation of two of Giankarim De Caro’s most beloved works: “Malavita” and “Fiori mai nati” , published in 2018.

The meeting, which includes free entry, will start at 6.00 pm with institutional greetings from the mayor of Cefalù Daniele Tumminello and the councilors Tony Franco and Laura Modaro, respectively responsible for Culture and Social Policies.

Santa Valenziano, Sabrina Miriana and Giovanni Basile will instead dialogue with the author.

Published by Navarra – like all the writer’s other books – the two novels revealed to the Italian public the talent of Giankarim De Caro and his stylistic signature, marked by a rough and hyper-realistic language.

“Malavita” tells the story of two generations of prostitutes who are confronted with the harshness of the period between the early twentieth century and the Second World War, and with the difficulties of their condition as single women.

In contrast to the lifestyle of the Palermo nobles, the four protagonists, the mother Lucia and the daughters Provvidenza, Pipina and Grazia, exploited and oppressed by the male universe, which never supports them and never protects them, find themselves united by the same destiny of street women.

Yet these two distant worlds intertwine and mix in ways as narrow as they are noble.

The author offers vivid images on the atrocities and deprivations of war and at the same time on the most intimate and painful aspects of the protagonists’ lives, between sex, love, illness and redemption which lead the characters to lose themselves and then find themselves in a circle of common belonging .

“Flowers Never Born” is a choral story in which Piero’s events are linked to those of his family with a tangle of knots that are impossible to untangle.

Against the backdrop of a dark and decadent Palermo, devastated first by American bombs and then by mafia-style illegal building, a novel stands out that doesn’t give discounts to anyone and that questions the moral sense and fundamental questions: are we born evil?

Is it possible to choose to change your destiny?

The author does not give answers, but stimulates the reader to reflect by taking inspiration from the Calamone family, arrogant and miserable people.

An interesting opportunity to approach the literary universe of Giankarim De Caro, one of the most beloved Italian writers on the contemporary scene.
