It made its debut at the end of May Ni Una Másthe new teen drama series by Netflix, a Spanish production that in a short time has climbed the ranking of the most viewed titles on the platform, even reaching first position in recent weeks. It is precisely an adolescent story which, with the tones of social denunciation but also of thriller, addresses an extremely complex topic such as sexual violence. The protagonist is in fact Alma (played by Nicole Wallace, former star of Skam España), a 17-year-old who carries with her the trauma of having suffered violence one night some time ago: determined to seek justice, the girl makes a gesture as desperate as it is sensational, hanging a banner at the entrance to her school which reads: “Attention. A rapist is hiding in here”. From there, while all her classmates and teachers see and film the scene, a story begins that will put her to the test.

As seen in the series trailer above, it is precisely the banner scene that kicks off all the events, which also include an investigation that risks putting Alma in a corner: not everyone believes her and some attitudes from her past are read by some as an accusation against her. Luckily she has two best friends, Greta and Nata, with whom he shares evenings, laughter but also the management of their most serious problems. Together they will challenge mistrust, gossip and even prying eyes, while someone begins to persecute Alma herself. anonymous messages and threats. It is here that the whole story takes on the dimensions of a real thriller, when the protagonist girl sees herself chased at night by mysterious figures but above all she finds herself at the center of a network of manipulations and lies which make her doubt everyone, starting with herself.

A bit’ Thirteen a bit Euphoria, Ni Una Más wants to be a rather direct and truthful portrait of the generationand today’s teenagers, therefore it does not spare a raw look at toxic relationships, addictions, transgressions and disillusionments. All perfectly in line with the many teen dramas that have crowded streaming platforms in recent years, but the story here at center stage comes from a different source. If the creative team of this miniseries, led by executive producers José Manuel Lorenzo and Miguel Sáez Carral, the same as the series El Inmortal. Gangs of Madridthe original plot It comes from a novel published in 2021 by the same Miguel Saez Carral. Journalist and writer, Carral has great experience as a narrator but has also worked for a long time in television series, as a screenwriter and television producer, specializing in particular in thriller series such as Homicides, The shit And Sequía.

Perhaps all this experience between adrenaline and investigations of the most common crime and violence stories led him to write a novel like Not one more (this is the Italian title of the edition published in our country by the publishing house Three60). The pace of the novel is that of an adrenaline-filled thriller that leaves no escape, in which the name of the guilty rapist is not revealed until near a surprise ending, after having spent pages and pages doubt any point of view, sometimes – in dreamlike or excited excerpts – even of the protagonist herself. The final result, in any case, is that of an insight as disturbing as it is necessary into today’s youth, its secrets and its travails, and that incommunicability background that separates generations and in some way also distances us from truth and justice. Let it be the vision of No One More both the reading of Not one more they are alienating, dramatic experiences but they lead us to ask ourselves insistently: why does it take so long to believe the victims?
