For the “Reading, telling, meeting…” cycle, the book will be presented in the Forteguerriana library on Tuesday 23 April at 5pm Silla Carobbi. Singing artist by Silvia Mauro (Settegiorni, 2023). Nilo Benedetti, editor of the volume, will speak in the presence of the author.

It was a long and successful career for the Pistoian baritone Silla Carobbi (1855-1933), who, starting from his debut in 1882 at the Manzoni Theater in his hometown, performed on the stages of the main theaters in Italy and around the world. A cultured and kind man, friendly and affable, but above all a very talented artist, Carobbi chased success by sailing across the ocean on long journeys by ship and crossing the mountains on the back of a mule, escaping yellow fever and epidemics, shipwrecks and earthquakes. In an existence that was certainly neither comfortable nor full of comforts, he had the opportunity to get to know different and surprising worlds, about which he wrote to his friend who remained in Pistoia in numerous letters. And it is precisely these letters, sometimes full of discouragement and nostalgia, others of liveliness and boldness, but more often of curiosity and amazement, that allow us to retrace his life and reconstruct his figure.

Silvia Mauro, passionate about local history of Pistoia, in 2015 published “L’incanto malefico. The Pistoia district exhibition of 1899”. You have also collaborated with QF magazine. Quaderni di Farestoria, periodical of the Provincial Institute of the Resistance of Pistoia.
