Was the presentation of the book by the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella «The universal city» has been canceled which was scheduled on April 4th at Luiss in Rome.
«The president of Luiss Gubitosi called me, very sorry and asked me to cancel the event» said Nardella himself who added that he was «remained shocked and sorry because we had agreed on the presentation of the book with personalities of various political positions such as Gaetano Quagliarello whose centre-right political history is known to all and also the professor Cerrina Feroni who is certainly not a left-wing intellectual, far from it.”
The intervention of the e.g. was also expected among the participantsx Prime Minister Romano Prodias moderator the editor of Repubblica, Maurizio Molinari. «Despite this attention and sensitivity – adds Nardella – Luiss took this decision and I am also sorry for Gubitosi himself, I thought that in Italy a free comparison could be carried out in a university on a book, there is evidently a heavy climate of political discrimination resulting of the attitude that this right-wing Government has towards anyone who thinks differently.”
Nardella said «genuinely concerned for the climate that exists, but obviously I certainly don’t want to embarrass Gubitosi or Luiss even if we had agreed everything with them, so now we will decide with Professor Prodi and the director of Repubblica Molinari whether to cancel everything at this point, because they are missing a few days, or do it somewhere else. Of course, frankly, it’s the first time something like this has happened to me, I’m honestly speechless.”
The mayor stated that «it is not an electoral initiative, the electoral campaign for the European elections has not started at all, there are no official candidatures yet.” Nardella concluded by speaking of «a defeat for culture, a defeat for the university world which no longer feels free to organize a very simple debate on a book».
