PETRITOLI Shared strategy for Valdaso. It was discussed yesterday in Petritoli, during the meeting organized by the Carducci Study Centre. The speakers were introduced by Barbara Toce, who as president of the Center opened the first official meeting. «We chose Valdaso – she said – because we consider it extremely important. Important activities are being implemented from a planning point of view that try to bring it out of its closure, making it look towards Europe. The intent is to begin a process of sharing to raise the awareness of local actors, understood as citizens, farmers and related activities.”

The speakers were professors from the Polytechnic University. The initial greeting could only be that of the host, the mayor Luca Pezzani, who provided interesting food for thought, starting from the strengths of Valdaso, such as the progress made in the field of tourism by Petritoli. He also highlighted the difficulties, such as growing depopulation and the difficulties of connecting at the road level, recalling that what is needed is not so much the Pnrr funds rained down but projects designed for small municipalities. Here the role of the Universities comes into play, with which to interface. As recalled by the teacher Antonello Alici who spoke about the landscape and heritage of Valdaso: «An example of the richness of Valdaso is the territory that goes from the sea to the mountains. We don’t want motorways or airports, but to arrive here with public services. We need to strengthen transport.” Valerio Temperini, a territorial marketing expert, reiterated that we are working on «strategies to be developed in the territories, aimed at sustainable objectives. The depopulation affects the entire region which has lost 50 thousand residents. We need to understand how to attract new residents and how to address environmental sustainability and climate change in an area with an agricultural vocation.”

Valdaso already boasts the positive experience of the river contract and the agri-food agreement which, as testified by the mayor Giuliana Porrà, sees Altidona as the leader. Giorgio Murri, head of the Agriculture Department of Univm, explained that «the agri-environmental agreement between public and private, which started in 2016, is above all about raising farmers’ awareness. We need to reduce the use of chemicals in the fields.” The reference basin is 9 thousand hectares, there are 104 agricultural companies and 19 Municipalities.
