The Salento artist Rita Guido left on tiptoe

Born in 1939, Rita Guido has dedicated her entire life to art in that union of art and life that has made her breathe since she was a girl the love for nature, the reality that she has transfigured into dreamlike visions of symbolist and surreal matrix.

A leading figure in the Salento artistic season since the 1960s, he was part of the Terra d’Otranto group with Annamaria Massari, Marisa Romano, Rosamaria Francavilla Maritati and Paola Sparro.

The artist has collaborated with the most significant artists of our territory: from Vittorio Pagano to Giancarlo Moscara, from Edoardo De Candia to Nino Rollo, not forgetting the “Torchio d’arte la Stella” printing house of the artist Pasquale Urso who took care of the print of numerous of his cycles of intaglio engraving. Her love for drawing, painting and engraving led her to intensely experience a long artistic season dotted with exhibitions in Italy and abroad.

Rita Guido was a refined intellectual, a contemporary visionary who was able to tell on large and small format poetic visions full of meaning, through the archetype she condensed the great themes of life: love, pain, loneliness, abandonment, death.

“The jars of love”, “The braid of Annamaria”, “The Piuma”, “The doors of love” are some pictorial cycles in which the artist wanted to tell some themes dear to her. Her refined palettes, with vibrant hues, have kept her mark, have welcomed and exalted it, have been the score of ethereal symphonies. The canvas space is sometimes insufficient to contain the flow of matter and color, a going beyond that characterizes her personality, her love for life, her dedication, her stubbornness, her love for humanity .

Today Salento loses a voice out of the chorus, a sibyl, a light.
