Maxima of Holland, the queen with butterflies on her head (and all the looks sported by the royals for King’s Day)

Born to amaze. Maxima of Holland of all the royals we know, she is the only one who manages to leave us speechless. She is not afraid of excesses, indeed she wears them with elegance by combining them with an accessory that is her true secret weapon: a contagious smile. For King’s Daythe national holiday is held on April 27 in the Netherlands each time in a different city to celebrate the king’s birthday Willem Alexanderthe queen did not spare herself.

Maxima of Holland she showed off a crown with conspicuously naturalistic features created by the milliner Berry Rutjes. Things came to life in my head butterflies with vegetal colors made of silk and feathers which, intertwined together, looked like ivy branches. What may seem like an exaggeration actually is a tribute to Emmenthe location that hosted King’s Day, also called the city of butterflies.

Obviously the whole outfit had to take the headgear into account. The queen therefore chose a forest green dress in silk guipure lace with a foliage motif created by maison Natan which she paired with a white sweater, a pair of white gloves and a green clutch bag.

Out of eleven national holidays in which she has participated since she has been sovereign, nine times Maxima preferred the Belgian fashion house to one from her own country. Not that I disdain Dutch designers, proof of this is the fact that for the recent banquet in honor of the Spanish sovereigns she showed off a dress designed by Jan Taminiau, but for most official occasions it borders on Brussels. This makes the fashion experts of her house turn up their noses a bit, as they would really appreciate it if their queen valorized some brands Made in Netherlands.
