(ASI) Rome – “In view of the summer peaks, it is urgent to strengthen controls and monitoring, with the best technologies available, on bridges, viaducts and overpasses, often old, often in conditions of degradation. Monitoring is as precise as possible if carried out with technologically advanced instruments, i.e. capable of guaranteeing punctual and certain performances in terms of acquisition of control data.
The most suitable answer is in fiber optic monitoring technologies, thanks to the characteristics of durability, robustness and immunity to any external interference. Although these are expressly indicated in the guidelines issued by MIT, in most of the calls for tenders on road and motorway infrastructures, to date, no reference to these fiber optic monitoring technologies has been found, as a guarantee of maximum attention to structural control of the infrastructures. For now, the center-right government has made some concrete interventions, allocating around 400 million and planning checks on as many as 19,000 artifacts, but more needs to be done and above all better with the most suitable technology”. and member VIII of the Public Works Commission.
