Gioia Tauro: New record of containers handled, 8,800 TEUs in one day

An exceptional result for the MedCenter Container Terminal, which beats its own monthly and daily record.

The port of Gioia Tauro continues to amaze with its efficiency and productivity. Yesterday, 26 April 2024, the MedCenter Container Terminal recorded a new daily record for containers handled, reaching the figure of 8,800 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). An exceptional result that surpasses the previous monthly record, set at 59,900 TEUs.

This achievement was made possible thanks to the synergistic work of the cranes, forklifts and all the terminal staff, who worked with great commitment and professionalism. The efficiency of the MedCenter Container Terminal is further enhanced by the context in which the record was achieved. Indeed, the maritime sector is facing a period of difficulty due to the conflict in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, which have led to an increase in costs and a reduction in traffic volumes.

Despite these challenges, Gioia Tauro once again demonstrates its centrality in the Mediterranean port landscape, confirming itself as a strategic hub for container transshipment. The new record of containers moved is a positive sign for the future of the port and for the Calabrian economy, which will be able to benefit from an increase in commercial activity and new job opportunities.
