The cruise season has begun and, in parallel, that of goods and passenger traffic already seems to be increasing compared to a few months ago. Mayor, we turn to you so that you can take action to improve some organizational, traffic and reception aspects for both the cruise and tourist seasons, also for the benefit of all those who pass through the city as passengers and drivers with a view to boarding at Costa Morena for Greece or Albania. Furthermore, it is necessary to improve relations with other bodies that have competences and interests in the industrial area and the port, primarily the Asi Consortium and the Port Authority, which must be operational and interact with the Municipality of Brindisi and, in synergy with this lastly, commit to ensuring that we can offer greater services in terms of efficiency and quality.

The synergy with the Authority (whose commitment has allowed a significant increase in port traffic) and the Asi Consortium (which in this context holds areas and infrastructures under its jurisdiction) must therefore be encouraged and everything must be linked in relation to organizational details, provided, however, that this happens in a very short time, before the summer season enters into full swing and the lack of services and organization becomes evident. From this perspective, we believe it is important that the Administration identifies and makes responsible a contact person who can act as an operational glue between the various bodies for the solution of problems that can improve some aspects of hospitality and liveability of the city.

At the same time, the major work to be done to prepare for the G7 global event is already underway. We therefore need an effort from everyone if we really want the city to be able to give its best until June 15th for all the attention that the G7 will bring on a global level: there is talk of thousands of police presences and Italian and foreign TV channels which, inevitably, will also be observers not only of our places and our traditions, but also of the quality of the services offered.

In the meantime, the port season will continue, so let’s not be caught unprepared and, above all, let’s put aside any clumsy attempt to leverage “passing the buck” in terms of responsibility. On the contrary, problems must be solved through concertation and unity of purpose. Brindisi occupies a strategic position in the Mediterranean: let’s restore its importance.
