Since then supplements have been withdrawn from the market.
The health scandal has hit Japan for months: in April 166 people who had ingested the supplements were hospitalized.
The probable causes
The company was investigated on October 26, 2023 following the poisoning cases, but the Ministry of Health has not released the results. It is said that 300,000 batches have been recalled. According to the company, the Japan Times reports, it is very likely that an “unintentional” substance contained in its “Beni kоji”, produced in July-October last year, caused the poisonings. The serial numbers on the supplements purchased by the dead customers suggest the possibility that that ingredient ended up in the products to be recalled.
