Here’s what really explains Russia’s economic resilience. Interview with Federico Giuliani

The economic growth of Russia continues to surprise the world, despite the numerous sanctions and restrictions imposed by the West. The latest data released by the World Bank has revealed an unexpected reality, contradicting forecasts that promised a sharp slowdown or even recession for the Russian economy. In contrast, Russia has not only resisted but advanced, overtaking Japan and ranking fourth among the world’s largest economies.

To better understand this phenomenon, we interviewed the journalist Federico Giuliani, author for Money.it Premium, who offered some insights into the resilience of the Russian economy. Giuliani highlights how a number of factors, including strong economic ties with non-Western countries such as China and North Korea, have played a key role. «Russia has strengthened its economic and political alliances in Asia, creating new trade and investment channels that have compensated for its isolation from the West,» explains Giuliani.

In addition to the relationships with the China, which remains a major trading partner, Russia has increased its economic cooperation with North Korea, finding in the latter a partner willing to defy international pressure. These ties have allowed Russia to access alternative resources and markets, replacing those lost due to sanctions.

The discussion then extends to India, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently reconfirmed his mandate through the polls. L’India, with its rapid economic growth and growing geopolitical weight, represents another key ally for Russia. The results of the recent elections could therefore have a significant impact on the future economic and political dynamics between the two countries.
