A woman has been rescued by a Basque police helicopter after becoming trapped in Flysch rocks in Zumaia, Spain. According to a statement released by the Security Department of the Basque government, the woman, of Italian origins, was walking along a path on the cliff when she became isolated by the ocean waters due to the rising tide.

The rescue

A video released on social media shows a paramedic lowering himself from the aircraft with a rope and, despite the strong wind, recovering the woman who was lying on the steep rocks, a few centimeters from the waves. According to local press reports, a passerby alerted the emergency services. The Basque government’s Directorate for Rescue at Sea then mobilized several units, including the Red Cross of the Sea, firefighters and local police patrols. In the end, however, a helicopter intervened with elements of the Mountain Section of the Surveillance and Rescue Unit on board. After recovery, the woman was transferred and treated by local health services and subsequently went to San Sebastian hospital.
