The dog Toby, who was buried for more than 10 days, recovers and receives an exciting surprise

Among the more than 11 thousand animals saved from the floods of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, there is one who survived a terrible experience: he remained trapped in the rubble of his house in Veranópolis destroyed by the landslide for ten days, alone. He was scared and emaciated, but every time he heard someone approaching he started barking, to make his presence felt. And that’s how the rescuers found him and intervened, opening a passage in the rubble and bringing him to safety before it was too late.

Knowing nothing about him, Ekiterra rescuers named him Scooby and took him to Spa Bicho Feliz, where he received all the urgent care he needed. “He was very thin and weak when he was rescued, but fortunately he had survived all this turmoil,” he says. He was for days without food or drinking water, injured and scared, alone, without knowing if he would ever get out of that prison of debris and mud or if one day he would see his family again. But fortunately, despite all the tragedy, he persevered and got the happy ending he deserved.

After being rescued, Scooby received all the necessary care from the vets while volunteers went in search of the family and discovered that he had a guardian waiting for him. Iolanda was at work, in a local restaurant, at the time of the landslide that left her little dog buried in her house. She too was stuck in the mud and debris: she was rescued by helicopter and taken to the center for displaced people. She lost everything but above all she was unable to return home in search of her beloved Toby.

With all her heart she hoped that somehow he had made it, but with each passing day the expectations of seeing him again diminished. And the joy was immense when they hugged each other again. The moment she had long awaited took Scooby-Toby by surprise, perhaps because he didn’t even imagine seeing her human again after all that destruction. But as soon as he recognized Iolanda, he started jumping, trying to hug her and wagging his tail without stopping. An irrepressible and contagious joy, which melted the hearts of everyone present.
