The American president Joe Biden and the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky they signed on the sidelines of the G7 a bilateral security agreement. In making the announcement, Biden underlined that the United States remains at the side of Ukraine, which has been fighting the war against Russia for 2 years, and defined the peace conference to be held in Switzerland on Saturday and Sunday as “historic”. “With the signing of the agreement with the USA, this is a historic day”, Zelensky’s words: “Now we have the tools to fight and win the war”.

The agreement is “a bridge” towards Kiev’s membership of NATO according to the Ukrainian president, who called Russia a “true global threat”. The agreement will ensure that “our nations will become stronger” and will guarantee measures to ensure sustainable peace: “It benefits everyone in the world”.

The United States and its allies “stand with Ukraine against tyranny,” Biden reiterated. “Will we stand for sovereignty, freedom and against tyranny? – asked Biden – The United States, the G7 and countries around the world have always answered this question by saying yes, we will. We repeat… we will stand by Ukraine”.

Then the American president explained that the agreement will help Ukraine to defend itself and avoid further attacks: “The United States will help ensure that Ukraine can do both, not by sending American troops to fight in Ukraine, but by providing weapons and ammunition, expanding information exchange” and training Ukrainian troops.

The G7 also reached “a formidable agreement” on the issue of Russian assets, which will be used to guarantee a 50 billion loan for Ukraine, Biden highlighted. “I also thank US President Joe Biden for his leadership in the G7 decision on the $50 billion loan for Ukraine. It is a critical step forward in providing sustainable support for Ukraine to win this war“, echoed Zelensky.

“Russian fixed assets – underlined Zelensky – should be used to defend the lives of Ukrainians from Russian terrorism and to compensate for the damage caused to Ukraine by the aggressor. This is absolutely right”.

Zelensky said he had received assurances from China: Beijing will not supply weapons to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine. “I had a telephone conversation with the Chinese leader” Xi Jinping. “He said they won’t sell any weapons to Russia… We’ll see… if he’s a respectable person, he won’t do it, because he gave me his word“.
