To the northern border of Israel continues to walk a thin line which, if crossed, could trigger a large-scale conflict between the IDF and Hezbollah. The Minister of National Security of Tel Aviv Itmar Ben-Gvir he visited the city of Kiryat Shmona, near Lebanon, and called for war against pro-Tehran terrorists.
“The IDF’s task is to destroy Hezbollah”, he declared, arguing that it is unacceptable that “our land is under fire, that the people here are evacuating” while in Lebanon “there is calm”. “All Hezbollah strongholds should be burnt, they should be destroyed. War!”, thundered the leader of the far right. Previously, during an interview on military radio, the minister had expressed his desire to lead operations on the northern border, promising a harsh answer against the militiamen of the party of God.”If they let me be responsible for the planes, the rockets, everything that is happening in the north, Hezbollah would learn what the answer of Israel“, he said. “It cannot be that they destroy a part of our country and we do not respond“.
For their part, Iran’s terrorist allies have declared that they have no intention of widening the conflict with Israel, but of being ready to fight in case the situation escalates. “Any Israeli expansion of the war in Lebanon will be met with devastationdestruction and displacement”, threatened the number two of the movement Naim Qassem, underlining that so far Hezbollah has only used a small part of its arsenal.
Since the war broke out in the Gaza Strip, Lebanese terrorists have sided with Hamas and started attacking Israeli military positions and cities near the Blue Line with rockets and mortars. The IDF responded by conducting attacks with drones, planes, helicopters and artillery. To date, however, the conflict has remained at a low intensity despite pressure from the far right in government, which has repeatedly asked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to authorize massive operations in Lebanon as well. Furthermore, given the continuous attacks, around 60 thousand Israeli civilians have been evacuated from the northern regions and, for the moment, it is not known when they will be able to return to their homes.
In the first weeks of the war, the allies of the Jewish State concretely feared an expansion of the conflict also in the Land of Cedars and put pressure on all the parties involved in
so that the IDF limited the offensive to the Gaza Strip. Iran itself, Hezbollah’s main ally and financier, basically kept the terrorists on a leash and prevented the situation from erupting.
