The intentions of Vladimir Putin to transport nuclear weapons in Belarus they accelerate. What was an announcement in March a year ago that then fell on deaf ears now seems to be coming true. According to New York Timesthe Russia is building on the territory of the country administered by Alexander Lukashenko some structures that could accommodate nuclear warheads.
The investigation of the prestigious newspaper is based on the examination of satellite images and explains that the chosen area is a ammunition depot soldiers 190 kilometers from the border withUkrainenear the city of Asipovichy. Some of the recently built structures in the area – suggests the New York Times – have characteristics that are typical of nuclear storage in bases on Russian territory.
Putin’s first announcement regarding the transportation of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus came in the spring of 2023 and the Kremlin he had ensured that they would be transported to the allied country by July of the same year together with ten planes able to release them. However, Moscow never announced that it had followed up on its plans resolutions.
In recent days, the story has become topical again. First Putin ordered nuclear exercises which would involve the troops based near Ukraine in “response” to “threats” from Emmanuel Macron And David Cameron. Then, just 24 hours later, the Belarusian army said it had carried out exercises for the launch of tactical nuclear weapons in order to verify the degree of “preparation” of pitchers.
