Campi Flegrei swarm, Castel di Sangro prepares for possible displaced people

L’AQUILA – The municipality of Castel di Sangro is preparing to host any displaced people coming from the Campi Flegrei, following the seismic swarm recorded last Monday.

There are three reception areas that the Abruzzo municipality will make available. The mayor of Castel di Sangro and president of the Province of L’Aquila, Angelo Caruso, declared this to ANSA.

These are the areas: water park, tennis courts and sports hall which can accommodate up to three thousand people. “In the mountain community area, the registration area will be equipped, always in case of need”, writes Ansa.

And meanwhile yesterday afternoon, an inter-ministerial summit at Palazzo Chigi on seismic activity. During the press conference held at the end of the meeting, regarding the evacuation plan, the minister for civil protection, Nello Musumeci, declared: “Thousands of buildings have been built in the Campi Flegrei area, there 80 thousand people live there.

It is the excessive anthropization of the territory that had to be prevented in the past and today creates a problem for the purposes of the rapid evacuation plan.

We are working with the prefecture and with the municipalities and with the region to define an evacuation plan which remains in the drawer but if necessary must be immediately created and implemented”.
