A Russian influencer has been sentenced to 8 years in prison in a maximum-security penal colony for the death of his 30-day-old son. The man, the 44 year old Maxim Lyutyi faced criminal proceedings following the hospitalization and death of his son Kosmos, aged just 30 days in March 2023: the child was completely malnourished and suffering from pneumonia.
Lyutyi is presented by the media as a vegan and raw foodist, but in reality the newborn would not have been fed at all: according to Kosmos’ reconstruction he would only have been exposed to sunrays as a form of experimental nourishment that the father intended to “sell” to other parents. Furthermore, in order to strengthen him – this was the man’s intention – the little boy would have been subjected to immersions in ice water: hence the pneumonia. Even the wife Oxana Mironova she was sentenced to 2 years.
The position of women was in fact considered lighter: while in Lyutyi the court in Sochi would have recognized a certain intentionality in the “serious personal injury” inflicted on the newborn, it was witnessed how the woman would have tried in every way to feed her child by breastfeeding him and with artificial milk, but her husband’s fear and control would have prevented her from doing so.
Lyutyi tried in every way to convince the court that his had only been a “negligence”: “This is purely a crime of negligence… without intent. I emphasize once again that I loved my son and took care of him” the man said, according to the Daily Mail. The child, who at the time of the events weighed only 1 kilo and 300 grams, was in serious distress and was taken to hospital, but the doctors were unable to do anything to save him: the clinical picture he was too compromised.
In the year he has been in prison, many details have emerged about Lyutyi. One above all: while affirming to the world that he is one raw vegan, ate meat and other foods of animal origin. The mother-in-law Galina Mironova described him as the leader of a “sect“, complaining that her daughter Oxana lived in a state of constant fear, separated from her family of origin, almost like a “slave”: “Oxana told me she was afraid of him. She wanted to leave him many times, but he held her back”.
The fact that Oxana was trying to feed her child in a common way, with breastfeeding and formula milk, was confirmed by her cousin Olesya Nikolayeva: Galina sent her daughter money for the baby’s formula and other needs, but Oxana failed to secretly feed the baby enough.
It also appears that the woman was forced to give birth at home, despite her desire to go to hospital.
