Russia has requested the extradition and arrest of those involved in the March 22 attack in Moscow. The Kremlin is convinced that the Ukrainian hand was behind the assault on the Crocus City Hall and for this reason it is calling for the arrest of the head of the SBU, Kiev’s intelligence agency: Vasily Malyuk. They accuse him of terrorism and they point out that it would not be the first attack for which he is responsible. He would also be involved in the sensational bombing of the Crimean bridge in October 2022.

The Russian government takes its cue from an hour-long interview that Malyuk gave to the ICTV broadcaster and in which he talks about, and actually confesses in detail, many operations conducted against the Russian enemy. It speaks of a murderous campaign run through secret and clandestine agents that killed more than a dozen Ukrainian citizens who collaborated with the Kremlin in the occupied territories for the arrest and torture of fellow Ukrainian citizens. «Officially, we won’t admit it. But at the same time, I can offer some details», declared General Malyuk in the interview reported by the Kyiv Post.

Malyuk, why Russia issues arrest warrant for terrorism

A Russian court has in fact issued a warrant for Malyuk’s arrest on suspicion of participation in “terrorist acts”.

But what is Malyuk talking about? It refers to a series of assassinations that targeted Ukrainians collaborating with the Russian invaders. They range from former Ukrainian parliament member Illia Kyva, who was assassinated in a village west of Moscow on December 6, 2023. Kyva had been convicted of treason and was continuing anti-Ukrainian activities in cooperation with Russia’s national spy agency FSB, and was executed by a couple of gunshots at close range by an experienced assassin. Malyuk said this in the interview. Then we talk about another Ukrainian, Zakhar Prelepinsenior police official in the Kremlin-backed “separatist” government in the eastern Luhansk region. Defined by Malyuk as a “target” because he had served the Ukrainian police forces at the highest levels before turning his back on them. It is unclear whether Prelepin died or survived an explosion in September 2022 in the Luhansk region. But he was also targeted.

Certainly the name mentioned by Malyuk that makes the most noise is that of the Russian political philosopher Alexander Dugin. The leader of 007 quotes themurder of his daughter on August 20, 2022. Dugin was saved only because he changed cars at the last moment. A real thorn in the side of the Russian occupiers, therefore, who want to stop him.

Malyuk, who is the leader of the Ukrainian 007s that Moscow wants to arrest

He is 41 years old, born in 1983, and since 2001 he has served in the Kiev security agencies, first in the regional departments and then in the national structure. In 2005 he obtained a law degree from the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine. In 2014, he participated in the anti-terrorism operation in Donbas and received a presidential award. He also served as deputy minister of internal affairs of Ukraine, brigadier general and major general. On February 7, 2023, on the proposal of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, parliament voted to appoint Vasyl Malyuk as head of the SBU.
