The trial of Ilaria Salis in Hungary and, at the same time, the list dossier for the next European elections, cause the debate to explode on La7. The table ofBlowing air, the talk hosted by journalist David Parenzo, becomes an unprecedented political ring. Starting from the right side we find Tommaso Cerno, former Pd now director of Tempo. On the other side Pina Piciernovice-president of the European Parliament seeking reconfirmation in Brussels.

At the center of the verbal clash is the process of Ilaria Salis, the woman who has been in preventive detention for thirteen months accused of two attacks against far-right militants and of being part of a criminal association. The court’s decision not to grant house arrest to the young militant is the perfect pretext for a merry-go-round cross accusations.“A comparison between the rule of law in our country, despite all the limitations we know and the difficulties that exist in Italian prisons, with what is happening in Hungary is in no way acceptable”, attacks the Dem MEP. And he adds:“Hungary, which is the subject of infringement procedures by the European Commission, and I say this to Cerno, then I take note of its new anti-European course…”.

The director of Tempo then doesn’t agree and goes on the counterattack. In reference to theHungary explains: “It’s not anti-European – Cerno takes the floor – it’s anti-lies. Your paperwork is of no use, Europe is full of papers that are of no use, you carry out infringement procedures but no one is interested in them, this is the truth”. From here the clash heats up. Dem Picierno defends herself: “The reality is that the enlargement process – if we want to talk about it seriously without the continuous interruptions of Cerno which make it really difficult to argue – was a fundamental instrument especially in the east, because it was itself an instrument of defense and let’s see exactly over the course of these months”. And he concludes: “What happened in Ukraine, that is, the criminal invasion of Putin’s Russia against Kiev, would have been impossible to make happen in any of the capitals that were included in our enlargement process.”

It’s a point of no return. Tommaso Cerno responds to the convoluted reasoning of the PD exponent and removes a few pebbles from his shoe. “Okay then if you also admitted Russia the invasion wouldn’t happen, but what are you talking about? But what does the Salis trial have to do with the war in Ukraine?. The reply from the democratic parliamentarian is dry: Get yourself some chamomile teaa sedative, and make others talk too”. No way. The journalist, pressed several times by the Democratic Party representative, blurts out and brings up the matter Elly Schlein. “First of all, it’s not clear why when you speak you speak ‘seriously’, but when others speak you don’t speak ‘seriously’.

Go and tell your ‘seriously’ to your party secretary”concludes Cerno.
