The program created and hosted by Monica Maggioni it is an in-depth journey that starts from a place – the Newsroom, the editorial office – in which a group of journalists asks questions, undertakes investigations and analyses of current affairs, to answer the questions of a multifaceted reality that is too often described in a superficial way. Inside Newsroom there will be reports, date analysis, the words of the protagonists of the events and the experts. The great interviews will be intertwined with the stories of correspondents in numerous countries around the world. For the first time an in-depth program was created with the aim of creating a link between the general public and the digital one, starting from the publication on the Rai video streaming platform.

Newsroom it is created in collaboration with the Insights Department and the Digital and Transmedia Contents Department. The first three series, broadcast on Raiplay on 26 June, 3 and 10 July, will introduce viewers to the world of fast fashion, describing all the social, environmental and economic aspects linked to this global phenomenon. Then the cameras will land inisland of Haiti, a former tourist paradise, now hell on earth and in the Arctic, a historic, uncontaminated place that has become the front line of an increasingly tense and armed confrontation between Russia and NATO. Among the other topics addressed, the war in Congo – which in about twenty years has so far cost 10 million human lives – and Afghanistanor the condition of women in a country that the West has ‘handed back’ to the Taliban.

“It is a project – explained Maggioni – of an entire team that talks about big issues. A story that involves multiple Rai directions, genres, products, is therefore a project of the entire company”. Episodes are proposed that delve deeply into a story and generate a docuseries, a sort of journey. The correspondents return and tell their stories, and at that point the entire editorial team starts looking for the data, the reasons why they are going to look for and tell the ‘current affair’. There is no shortage of war scenarios, “but they are not the ones we see every day”. The objective, Maggioni further explained, “is the millions of people who try to have explanations about what is happening in the world and do so by using YouTube. Rai must speak to everyone, avoiding self-referential debates. If we lose the challenge with those who are out there and wants to know and learn, Rai would no longer have a reason to exist”. The director of RaiPlay in turn spoke of “a great team that is innovating the offer. This is a product totally designed for the platform, where the docuseries finds its natural terrain”.
