Trump’s plan: no weapons in Kiev if there is no negotiation

Two key advisors to Donald Trump have presented the former US president with a plan to end Russia’s war in Ukraine if he wins the presidential election: the plan involves telling Kiev that it will continue to receive US weapons only if it enters peace talks with Fly. This was reported exclusively by the Reuters news agency. The US would at the same time warn Moscow that any refusal to negotiate would result in greater American support for Ukraine, retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, one of Trump’s national security advisers, said in an interview. Under the plan drawn up by Kellogg and Fred Fleitz, who both served as Trump’s National Security Council chiefs of staff during his presidency (2017-2021), there would be a ceasefire based on the battle lines prevailing during the talks peace. The two advisers presented their strategy to Trump and the former president responded favorably, Fleitz said. “I’m not saying I agreed (with the plan) or that I agreed with every word (in the plan), but we were happy to get the feedback we got,” he added. For his part, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said that only statements made by Trump or authorized members of his campaign should be considered official. The strategy outlined by Kellogg and Fleitz, comments Reuters, is the most detailed plan so far developed by Trump’s collaborators, who in the past has said that he could quickly resolve the war in Ukraine if he became president. The proposal, the news agency continues, would mark a major change in the US position on the war and would face opposition from European allies and Trump’s own Republican Party. The Kremlin has said that any peace plan proposed by a potential future Trump administration will have to reflect reality on the ground, but that Russian President Vladimir Putin remains open to talks. “The value of any plan lies in the nuances and taking into account the real state of things on the ground,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Reuters. “President Putin has repeatedly said that Russia has been and remains open to negotiations, taking into account the real state of affairs on the ground,” he added: “We remain open to negotiations.”
