On the day in which Italy is downgraded in the useless press freedom ranking, a small, very short comment comes to mind. But if we live in a regime where the right to express oneself is limited, where inconvenient intellectuals are chased away from Raiwhere Telemeloni rages, how is that possible Geppi Cucciari can read a monologue by the late Michela Murgia on live national TV and that among all the possible texts of an entire book he chooses the one against Matteo Salvini?
Let’s be clear, nothing against this decision. If Cucciari is convinced that her audience likes her and the numbers are on her side, hats off to her. Very free to do so. Here, however, we need to put the pieces of the puzzle back into place. The ranking created by the French of Reporters without borders, in fact, not only does it cast an incomprehensible spotlight on the possible sale of Agi to the Angeluccis, a sale which at the moment does not yet take place and therefore it is not clear how it could influence a serious ranking; but it is also used by the left to relaunch the antics of a Rai “completely at the mercy of the government with censored guests, newspaper editors summoned to the Anti-Mafia Commission, journalists investigated for their investigations”. It’s the syndrome of Antonio Scurati, Fabio Fazio and many others: they don’t find an economic agreement with Viale Mazzini and they throw it at victimhood, relaunching the narrative of a censorship that in fact doesn’t exist.
Geppi Cucciari is proof of this. Just like Serena Bortone, who in the end read Scurati’s text without limitations, the presenter of “Splendida Cornice” also had all the freedom in the world in relaunching – among all the excerpts available – precisely the appeal of Michela Murgia to a sort of resistance post-mortem against Salvini or La Russa. If this is Telemeloni, it must be said, the censorship office really works like crap.
