For lovers of Thriller miniseries that come out of the usual themes told, here it is Netflix there is a very interesting Swedish crime production. Divided into eight episodes of approximately 45 minutes each, the television seriesCaliphate” focuses on the age-old issue of Islamic religious fundamentalism.

Although the topic may seem rather limited to a niche of users interested in the topic, from the point of view of acceptance by the Web we see excellent feedback. The interpretation, then, is very current, placing the role of women at the centre. The different stories intertwine, always revolving around the female figure, who expresses in every circumstance the characteristics of the insertion of jihadism into European society and its most terrible expressions in Syria.

At an environmental level, in fact, we find ourselves in the context of Swedish society, struggling with the recruitment of “foreign fighters” prepared to act in the name of the Islamic State. The series narrates reality as it really is, avoiding filters and interpretations. All this makes “Caliphate” a series recommended to everyone because it brings people closer to understanding a phenomenon that does not only belong to distant territorial contexts, but also very close by.

It intrigues trailer on Youtube (also present on the official Netflix website which will be responsible for its distribution from 2021), which clearly clarifies the theme around which the film revolves plot.

The story takes place in September 2015 through two scenarios: the Swedish one, where Ibbe, an ISIS affiliate ready to strike in Europe and recruit future jihadists, operates and foreign fightersand that of the Syrian capital of ISIS, Raqqa, where a couple of boys moved from Sweden and swore loyalty to the Caliphate.

The two stories come together and intertwine, having Fatima, an agent of the Swedish secret services, as their point of union. The woman works to anticipate intelligence moves with the aim of foiling attacks organized by ISIS.

The narrative highlights well how the Caliphate acts beyond its borders on the basis of carefully described religious dictates, amid constant tension and danger.
