Mariska Hargitay stops filming to help a lost little girl

The protagonist of the hit series was filming a scene in a public park in Manhattan.

“There would be an Olivia Benson in the real world too” is no longer just a thought in the mind of some devoted fan Law & Order: Special Unit. At least on one occasion, the real city of New York was able to count on the invaluable help of the captain of the Special Victims Unit. The line between reality and fiction became very thin when, last week, a little girl interrupted filming of the series in Manhattan to ask Mariska Hargitaythe actress who has played Olivia Benson for 25 years, to help her find her mom after she got lost.

A little girl stops filming Law & Order: Special Ops after getting lost

On Wednesday 10 April, the production of Law & Order: Special Unit was in Fort Tryon Park, in northern Manhattan, filming an episode of season 25. Apparently, the little girl and her mother lost sight of each other at the local playground and, when the little girl saw the police badge hanging on Hargitay’s belt, thought the Emmy winner was a real NYPD agenda and asked her for help finding her parents. Second PeopleHargitay stopped filming the scene she was sharing with her co-star Ice-T and spent the next 20 minutes reuniting the little girl with her mother and, once she did, talking to them, as the photos on this page show.

Despite the many years behind us, Law & Order: Special Unit continues to be one of the most followed and loved series on American TV. Last month, NBC gave the okay to produce a further cycle of episodes, the twenty-sixth. In Italy, the season currently broadcast, which we remember will only be 13 episodes long due to the Hollywood strikes last year, will debut on Sky Investigation and streaming on NOW this Sunday 21 April.
