A terrible road accident occurred today (Sunday 30 June), just before midday in Beaujeu, France, on the Col du Labouret, between Seyne-Les-Alpes and Digne-Les-Bains. Two motorbikes collided and the toll is dramatic: two dead, a woman seriously injured. One of the victims is Fabrizio Arlotto from Cuneo, 56 years old, long-time owner of the tobacconist’s newsstand in San Defendente di Cervasca, father of two daughters. According to an initial reconstruction, being examined by the gendarmerie, Arlotto was on a trip with a group of motorcyclist friends, riding his Ducati Multistrada alone. On a straight stretch, he was preceded by a camper and perhaps, to take measurements for a possible overtaking, he widened his trajectory too much while another motorbike was coming from the other direction, with a couple from Milan on board. Hence the head-on crash. Arlotto and the other motorcyclist from Lombardy who was driving died instantly, the woman passenger of the latter was transferred by helicopter to the hospital in Marseille, in critical condition. News of the tragedy spread rapidly this afternoon in the Cuneo area, where Fabrizio Arlotto was very well known and esteemed for his great human and professional qualities. For many years he had managed the tobacconist’s, newsagent’s and stationery shop in the centre of San Defendente di Cervasca, on the provincial road towards Cuneo, not far from Merlo Spa. A point of reference for many people who appreciated his courtesy, affability and availability. A great music enthusiast, he was also a profound connoisseur of the rock world, and over the years he had participated in dozens of concerts of the most important international artists (AC-DC, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers), both in Italy and abroad. He adored the Rival Sons, when they performed in Italy he never missed them. He leaves his partner Cinzia, his daughters Natalia and Anastasia with their mother Marcella and parents. Arlotto’s body was laid out in the Beaujeu mortuary. Authorization from the French judiciary for repatriation to Granda is awaited.
