Journey into the art of oil: Passione Laboratory of Costa d’Oro

The journey into the art of oil began with Guido Farinelli, the food and wine historian of Spoleto origin, who inaugurated the events of the “Passion Laboratory” of Costa d’Oro on Saturday 29 June. Farinelli, known for his column on «Geo» on Rai Tre since 2020, guided the participants on a journey through the Umbrian traditions linked to oil, a precious resource.

This event is part of a program of dissemination events, such as the DOP Umbria masterclasses and meetings with writers, artists and chefs, which take place in the Temporary Shop opened on the occasion of the Festival dei Due Mondi. This space welcomes visitors from all over the world and will continue to be active until April 2025.

The Temporary Shop opened its doors on Wednesday 26 June in Piazza del Mercato 13 in Spoleto, with an inaugural event and another oil-themed event curated by Gabriele Mattiacci, Chef of Il Frantoio di Assisi. This new space is dedicated to raising awareness of the variety and quality of Gold Coast oils, with special packaging, limited edition oils and many other products that are magnified or inspired by the oil: from gin to chocolate, to cosmetics to based on olive oil and other food excellences such as saffron, all coming from virtuous realities that celebrate the land, the olive tree and its fruits.

In addition to products, the Temporary Shop also offers technology and events. Every day, visitors are invited to learn about the oils through an interactive app that helps them recognize their emotions and sensory reactions, bringing them closer to the different experiences that can be linked to extra virgin olive oil. This game will accompany them on the journey of learning about the variety of oils selected by Costa d’Oro.

Each event, which will be announced on the Costa d’Oro website and social media, will welcome Italian and foreign guests through true stories of “Land, People, Passion” and will be animated by the real experiences of those who share the core values of Costa d’Oro on a daily basis.

“Il Laboratorio della Passione” is the testimony of the Umbrian company’s desire to innovate and inform about a precious raw material, the cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet and emblem of our country’s naturalistic heritage, first in terms of biodiversity in the world with over 500 cultivars.

Oil is in vogue both as a condiment in Italy and in foreign markets, where it is increasingly appreciated for its health and nutraceutical characteristics, but also as a component or amplifier of the aroma or flavor in a myriad of other products, up to modern mixology.

In the Passion Laboratory, many partners of the Planet O-live Academy will intervene, such as Assoprol, an association that brings together over 800 Umbrian olive growers, or Olivastre, an association founded by 3 women who have recovered a centuries-old olive grove in the Lake Trasimeno area , with which the first limited edition was developed – Opere d’Olio N.1.

And in the Passion Laboratory, Costa d’Oro also presents a preview of the new graphic look: a new logo and a new design to communicate an even more modern and quality brand image.

But not only food, also art and, more generally, protection and enhancement of the artistic heritage of our country. For this reason, Costa d’Oro hosts in the shop 4 olive-shaped sculptures by the artist Giovanni Carta, author of the giant sculpture donated to the city of Spoleto and part of the Germinazione della Pace installation exhibited in front of the Basilica of Assisi last year.

Furthermore, Costa d’Oro continues to be a supporter of the FAI (Italian Environment Fund) and in Spoleto it more recently contributed to the installation of Felice Levini’s work at Palazzo Collicola which houses the “G” Modern Art Gallery . Carandente”. Levini’s work was inaugurated on June 28th on the occasion of the opening of the Festival dei Due Mondi.
