ENAOLI (National Organization for the Assistance of Orphans to Italian Workers) was a meritorious organization that provided assistance to boys and girls who had had the misfortune of losing their parents due to work-related reasons. It did this in two ways: directly by financially supporting the families and indirectly by keeping the young people in its institutes scattered throughout Italy from Valenza Po, to Rispescia, Mondello and to Iglesias, in whose boarding school the children attended the internal middle school at the same institute, and subsequently the Professional Institute for electromechanical mechanics, turners, with attached laboratories and workshops, giving them the possibility of very interesting professional opportunities. Those who chose other courses had the option of attending schools in the city.

The young people could also attend the summer colonies of the institution in Porto Pino, Caprera and Lu Bagnu and carried out numerous educational activities and workshops both with internal educators and with external experts who introduced them to ceramic, painting, photography, theatre, archeology workshops and music. ENAOLI also practiced intense sporting activity in volleyball, athletics and football and, an important detail, the Iglesias college team became the regional champion of the CSI championship and won the national championship in 1965 at the Spring Games in Rome. All under the governance of educational and managerial staff chosen by competition and prepared in the “Silvino and Agostina Giaccone” Pedagogical Center, on Via Cassia in Rome, by the best teachers of Roman universities before being sent to the various institutes of the peninsula. In the same Pedagogical center the staff were called back annually for refresher courses.

To stick to the reality of Sardinia alone, a class of highly qualified personnel has emerged from the Iglesias college, hired by the best and most important Italian companies, from Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Magneti Marelli, Enel, Telecom to the Ferrovie dello State.

It will certainly be a day full of pathos and amarcord that the participants will remember for a long time.
