MESAGNE – The seven-year-old girl will have it for 30 days. Her parents are hospitalized in intensive care. The community of Erchie is shaken by the drama that hit the family involved in the tragic accident that occurred yesterday evening (Thursday 27 June) on the provincial road that connects Torre Santa Susanna to Mesagne.

Mother, father and daughter were traveling with 66-year-old Luisa Calò, the little girl’s maternal grandmother. The woman, unfortunately, did not survive the impact between the Renault Scenic in which the family was traveling and the Fiat 500 driven by a woman resident in Torre Santa Susanna, who was returning home from her job at a commercial business in Mesagne. The driver of a BMW, only marginally involved, did not suffer any consequences.

The dynamics of the accident are being examined by the traffic police and the Mesagne police station directed by the deputy commissioner Giuseppe Massaro. The two cars would have collided, for reasons to be ascertained, head-on. It happened just outside Mesagne, near the Salento Dog dog centre. High tragedies have already occurred on that same stretch of road. The most recent was last February, when the engaged couple Matteo Buccoliero, a 20-year-old from Sava (Taranto) and Matilde Chionna, a 17-year-old from Latiano, volleyball player, lost their lives.

For Luisa Calò there was nothing that could be done. The resuscitation attempts carried out by the 118 staff were in vain. Now there is apprehension about the conditions of her daughter and son-in-law. The woman is hospitalized with a reserved prognosis in the intensive care unit of the Taranto hospital, where she was transferred during the night. The husband is in the intensive care unit of the Perrino hospital, also with a reserved prognosis. The seven-year-old daughter is hospitalized in the Orthopedics department of the Brindisi hospital with a broken leg. The driver of the 500 is still being evaluated, with no particular critical issues at the moment.

Both vehicles were seized. Luisa Calò’s body is available to the prosecutor on duty at the Brindisi court, who could give the go-ahead for its return to her family in the next few hours.
