A summer at the seaside, but with decidedly higher rates. Costs are rising by 8% compared to 2023 and for this reason the country’s beaches are registering a drop in Italian presences. This is predicted by thePanorama Tourism observatory – Mare Italia by Jfc which ANSA published in preview. Out of a total of 407 million presences in the seaside sector (-1.1% on summer 2023 and -1.2% on 2019) the Italian ones will be 312 million 511 thousand with a 4.4% drop and therefore a loss of 14 million 511 thousand in 2023.
Holidays, how to ask for a loan (and how much it costs) to go to the seaside or to the mountains: 14% of Italians get into debt
However, tourists coming from all over the world to enjoy the beauties of our country will fill the Italian gap: according to what was reported by the observatory, foreign presences will reach 94 million 513 thousand with a +11.6% (i.e. 9 823 thousand) on 2023.
The destinations chosen by Italians
Italians, however, do not give up their desire for the sea, choosing to spend their holidays in other foreign seaside destinations such as Greece, Spain and Albania. From the national survey it emerges that Italians increasingly prefer, year after year, to organize summer trips outside the country. A response that is not very positive for our economy – explains Massimo Feruzzi, head of the observatory.
In Italy, seaside destinations will show fluctuating indicators both between locations in the same seaside areas and between the various weeks, making the activity of operators in the sector even more complex. “With a red alert – says Feruzzi – which is that of the month of August, which risks no longer being the classic month of ‘Italians’ holidays’: prices are too high, full only from 9 to 18 August and increasingly shorter stays in this month, with an average duration that is reduced by a good 2.1 nights”.
