Festival of the “Entire Human”: a meeting on the nature of man in the change of era

From 18 to 19 June 2024, the Pio Sodalizio dei Piceni in Rome hosted the first Festival of the “Whole Human”, an event dedicated to reflection on anthropology in the context of the change of era

ROME. Organized by “Say it on the roofs” (Mt 10.27), a network attended by around a hundred associations, coordinated by the lawyer. Domenico Menorello, which aims to give voice to a common opinion on the regulatory and “public” dynamics that impact the conception of humanity.

The festival was intended as a day and a half of sharing and mutual listening and involved authoritative personalities from culture, Parliament, Government, Church, music, art and poetry. The interventions explored how current regulatory and public dynamics influence the conception of the human.

Over the last ten years, the Italian social context has undergone increasing pressure to modify traditional cultural and social references through regulatory and public reforms. This phenomenon is indicative of the “change of era” described by Pope Francis, characterized by the fading of millennial ideals.

In this scenario, the repetition of ethical canons appears ineffective. It is necessary to focus on the essential anthropological challenge: what idea of man is promoted by the dominant mentality and its reforms? Is this vision reasonable and satisfies the expectations of the human heart? The lack of shared values in society requires greater awareness, since, as Thomas Aquinas emphasizes, a law always reflects an idea of “good,” profoundly influencing society, especially when common references are lost.

On 18 June, the main existential and bioethical issues currently debated were analysed, highlighting how these are influenced by an efficiencyist neo-individualism. This approach links the value of existence to the capacity for self-determination and performance, excluding the weakest.
