After the joy of victory in the Barcelona GP, fear for the Verstappen family: serious accident in the rally and car destroyed
Even in this world championship of Formula 1, things are going swimmingly for the Red Bull and for Max Verstappen which continues to collect victories, maintaining the lead in the drivers’ standings and in the constructors’ standings for its team.
The Dutch driver is once again proving to be superior to everyone although on a technical level his car is inferior to the one he drove last season and this gives him even more credit for what he is doing. Despite some unsuccessful outings, however physiological, Verstappen is firmly in command of the standings and achieved another success in the last GP held in Barcelona.
Now, the standings say that Verstappen he is +69 over Norris in second and +71 over Norris in third, while Sainz is far away. Despite the fact that there is still a long way to go until the end of the world championship, one already has the feeling that the Dutch driver can triumph once again.
However, the joy of the victory obtained in the Barcelona GP was immediately transformed into fear for Verstappen as his father Jos was involved in an accident during a rally, making him very worried.
Rally, accident for Verstappen senior: car destroyed and retirement
While Max Verstappen was busy in the Barcelona GP where he achieved another overwhelming victory, his father Jos Verstappen took part in the Rally di Ypres, but unfortunately for him he wasn’t as lucky as his son. Verstappen senior, in fact, was forced to retire after being involved in a terrible accident that completely destroyed his Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 while he was in a wooded area of Kemmelberg.
Engaged in the world of motorsports for many years, Jos Verstappen has always shown his talent, but this time things did not go according to his plans. The accident was too serious to continue the race and in the end Max’s father had to raise the white flag, while the race was won by the Frenchman Stéphane Lefebvre.
Luckily, both Jos Verstappen and his co-driver Renaud Jamoul they came out unharmed and this gave a sigh of relief to the F1 champion, who had a real scare after the success achieved in the Catalan GP. Now the family’s focus is all on this weekend’s GP in Austria.
