The firefighters of Reggio and Carpi were busy the other evening due to a fire that broke out inside a small room adjacent to a room, inside the San Sebastiano hospital in Correggio, in the Diagnosis and Treatment. The alarm went off just before 10pm, with the mobilization of the 115 teams from Reggio, Carpi and the Guastalla detachment. Initially, the worst was feared when smoke came out of the toilet area of one room, where a plastic container for soap and disposable towels had been set on fire. A possible evacuation of the area has also been prepared in case of emergency. Fortunately, however, the fire was limited to the plastic material, which mainly caused smoke, without however spreading the flames further to other structures or adjacent rooms, also thanks to the timely intervention of the department staff. In a short time the situation was made safe. There are no consequences for people. Investigations have been launched to try to clarify the exact dynamics of the episode. The Carabinieri were also mobilized for the investigations, carried out with the firefighters who intervened on site. The other evening’s episode brings the safety problems at Correggio’s Diagnosis and Care department back into the news, which has long been at the center of a debate, including with trade unions, to transfer the same department to more adequate and safer spaces for the patients and also for staff on duty.
