Traveling by plane will cost more: Lufthansa fares are increasing
They started yesterday, June 26th, Lufthansa fare increases. The German airline has announced the introduction of a surcharge for all flights that will be purchased with a flight scheduled to start from January 1, 2025. The increases will apply to all flights sold and operated by the Lufthansa Group in EU countries, the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland.
The additional amount may vary depending on the route oscillating in a range between 1 and 72 euros. The ecological transition has its price: the decision was, in fact, taken to cover the additional costs borne by airlines resulting from the new rules on environmental protection.
“Every year, the Lufthansa Group invests billions of euros in new technologies and collaborates with partners on innovations that contribute to making flying progressively more sustainable,” the company said in a statement. However, the group will not be able to sustain the additional costs alone constantly increasing resulting from regulatory requirements in the coming years. Part of these expected costs will therefore be passed on to travellers.
Soon, other carriers tooincluding British Airways and Air France-KLM, are expected to make similar choices.
