It was June 16, 2014 when a new fundamental chapter was written in the sad story of Yara Gambirasio, the 13-year-old from Brembate di Sopra who disappeared on the evening of November 26 and was found lifeless three months later in a field in Chignolo d’Isola. The arrest of Massimo Giuseppe Bossetti, 42 year old bricklayer, with a wife and three children. Unsuspected, until that day. However, his DNA appears to coincide with the genetic imprint that the killer (initially called “Ignoto 1”) left on the little girl.

“What remains of that June 16th is the memory of a dramatic, traumatic, unforgettable day. From a life lovingly marked between the four walls of the home and those of construction sites, one day suddenly my life changed forever. An unthinkable thing…” the words in a letter from the man who would then be definitively convicted in October 2018 for Yara’s murder. It was published exclusively by TeleLombardia. Since then Bossetti has always proclaimed his innocence.

“I was on a construction site in Seriate building a single-family house, a normal, common working day… I remember that I stayed there all day when shortly after 5pm, an army of 30/40 carabinieri, state police raided the construction site … ” remember. “From the scaffolding I saw a beast emerge, a carabiniere with a ferocious look who ordered me to stop, to throw the trowel to the ground. I asked him what was happening, but he ordered me: “shut up, lower your gaze, don’t look at me in his face and kneel down.” “How about you shut up and kneel down,” I replied, “he’s treating me like I’m a drug dealer.”

Therefore, 10 years have passed since his arrest and Massimo Bossetti continues to hope for a review of the trial. In May his lawyers were able to see for the first time the finds and samples that led to the Mapello bricklayer being sentenced to life in prison.

Ten years ago the arrest of Massimo Bossetti who hopes for a review: “I will prove that I did not kill Yara”

Bossetti still remembers: “I found myself on the ground kneeling on the scaffolding, surrounded by carabinieri and police officers with cameras in their hands. They immediately put handcuffs on me and held me by the strong grip that their hands had on my neck, on my shoulders… I begged them to let go, to let me go… They just wanted me to stay quiet, without me being able to understand or know what was happening to me in that tragic moment…”.
