Since the arrival of the first images, with the announcement of the cast, we have been expecting it. But with the confirmation of Kevin Feigeat the head of Marvel Studios, we can take it for sure: the new film about Fantastic Four will be set in the 1960s. But not in the New York we know.
Fantastic Four will be set in the 1960s (but which universe?)
During the official Marvel podcast, Feige revealed that Fantastic Four It will be a “period film“, or a period film. And he added an intriguing detail, commenting on fan speculation after one of the promotional images. “There was an image we released with Johnny Storm flying through the air and doing the 4 sign. There’s a view of the city in that image. There have been a lot of smart people who have noticed that it doesn’t exactly look like the New York we know or the New York that existed in the 1960s in our universe. Those were intelligent observations, I would say….”
But the surprises don’t end there. Feige also announced that the film will begin shooting the day after San Diego Comic-Con, i.e. July 29th. Director Matt Shakmanfresh from the success of WandaVisionis already in London to prepare.
And speaking of Shakman, the filmmaker has promised a completely new approach to the characters of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm, as Comicbook.com recalls. Feige, for his part, said he’s looking forward to it “play” with these characters. “I’m extremely excited, because these characters are protagonists, they are pillars of the Marvel Universe that we have never played with in a significant way, other than in the Multiverse of Madness and some fun teases in the past,” he said in the podcast.
Marvel Studios seems intent on restoring prestige to the Fantastic Four with a film that promises to be one of a kind. We can’t wait to find out what’s in store for us this dive into the 60s (or in an alternative version thereof). See you in 2025.
