Continuous increases in fuel prices in Italy: Petrol, Diesel, LPG and Methane on the rise. The consequences on family budgets

There is no good news for Italian motorists: the fuel costs continue to rise. Petrol, diesel, LPG and methane are becoming increasingly expensivemaking filling up a luxury that weighs more and more on family budgets. According to data fromPrice observatory of the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, between 8 and 23 June 2024 all types of fuel recorded an increase in prices at the pump.

Petrol: average price at 1.859 euros per liter

The average price of self-service petrol reached 1,859 euros per litre, with an increase of 0.003 euros compared to the previous survey. Oil companies offer prices that vary between 1,850 and 1,869 euros per litre, while unbranded pumps offer an average price of 1,847 euros per litre. The cost of petrol served is even higherwith an average price of 2 euros per litre, slightly increased compared to the 1.997 euros per liter of the previous survey. Companies with a brand oscillate between 1.936 and 2.068 euros per litre, while those without a logo stand at 1.906 euros per litre.

Diesel: average price at 1.735 euros per litre

Also the diesel saw a price increase. The average cost of self-service diesel is now 1,735 euros per litre, compared to 1.727 euros per liter in the previous survey, marking a increase of 0.008 euros. Prices vary between 1,731 and 1,748 euros per liter for companies with a brand, while those without a logo offer an average price of 1,722 euros per litre. The diesel served has an average price of 1.877 euros per litre, up compared to 1.868 euros per liter in the previous survey. Companies with a brand vary between 1,820 and 1,953 euros per litre, while those without a logo are at 1,780 euros per litre.

LPG and methane: price increase

Like everyone else, LPG and methane are not exempt from increases. The average price of methane varies between 1.314 and 1.386 euros per kilogramdropping to 1.324 euros per kilogram for no logos. LPGhowever, has a average price ranging from 0.714 to 0.732 euros per litre, with the no logo ones offering a price of 0.699 euros per litre.

The consequences on family budgets

The constant increases in fuel prices are having a significant impact on the family budgets of Italianstransforming the full tank of fuel into an increasingly burdensome expense. The hope of a reversal of the trend seems rather distant, with costs continuing to rise consistently.
