“The network doesn’t work, it’s impossible to make recipes”

Twenty days of malfunction since the beginning of the year, 11 of which from mid-May to yesterday. A daily unknown, now, that is accompanying the work of general practitioners, dealing with the intermittent functioning of the Siss network, the telematic network that connects hospitals and healthcare facilities with the Ats, pharmacies, institutions and regional health workers. “There are now daily reports that come to the attention of our Lombard Provincial Orders, relating to the malfunctioning of the SISS network, with repercussions on work and disservices to the citizen”, announced the Federation of the Orders of Lombard Doctors, Surgeons and Dentists.

“The medical profession, already in difficulty due to the well-known critical issues due to the shortage of professionals and the heavy, and often unmotivated, bureaucratic burden to which it is subjected on a daily basis, finds itself having to suffer a disservice that is putting normal outpatient activity in crisis. this point becomes a priority to quickly resolve all the critical issues of the IT system of the Lombardy Region and the related national interfaces”.

What does the malfunction of the SISS mean in concrete terms? “It means that prescriptions cannot be dematerialized, so the patient must go to the clinic to collect the red prescription which, however, is an obsolete method, so much so that the Assts provide a small number of prescription books – explains Nicola Bastiani, GP and councilor of the Brescia Medical Association – Or you are unable to access the health record, so you cannot preview the tests, and this decreases the effectiveness and efficiency of the system. Or you still cannot do it the sick note on the spot. In a daily life where time is a precious resource, every stumble causes the whole system to collapse a little.”

The disruptions could continue in parallel with the update of the platform. “This morning (yesterday for those reading this) the system didn’t recognize me for an hour – confirms Angelo Rossi, provincial secretary of Fimmg Brescia – so it wasn’t possible to write dematerialized prescriptions or give sick days. Now every morning, when I start the work, I wonder how it will end.”
