Fatal accident between Costano and Bettona: one victim and one seriously injured
A serious road accident occurred on the afternoon of June 24, 2024, between Costano and Bettona, causing the death of a woman and the serious injury of her partner. The accident occurred around 4.15pm along the road that connects Costano di Bastia Umbra to Passo di Bettona.
According to information provided by the firefighters, a 58-year-old woman of Romanian nationality lost her life. The victim was in the car with her husband, a 61-year-old Italian citizen, who was driving the vehicle. The man, who was seriously injured, was transported in code red to the Santa Maria della Misericordia in Perugia via the Nibbio air ambulance.
The accident was described as independent: the car went off the road, overturning in the stretch between via Assisi and via San Simone. The firefighters of the Assisi team intervened promptly at the accident site, managing to extract the two occupants from the destroyed vehicle. Despite rescue attempts, the woman died on the spot.
The road was immediately closed to traffic to allow rescuers to intervene. An ambulance from 118, two patrols from the Carabinieri and two from the local police of Bastia Umbra also arrived on site, managing road traffic and supporting the rescue operations.
The causes of the accident are currently being investigated, but initial information indicates that the car may have left the road and ended up on an embankment. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn completely. The competent authorities are investigating to clarify the exact dynamics of what happened.
