Trieste Cable Car, Region and Municipality against citizens – News

On the one hand, the Municipality of Trieste, with the mayor Roberto Dipiazza who reiterated the desire to carry out a work considered useful for the development of the territory. Will also supported by the Councilor for Environmental Policies Fabio Scoccimarro. On the other hand, the No Ovovia committee, which once again expressed, with multiple voices, a long series of doubts regarding the project.

The controversial cableway project which should connect the Old Port of Trieste with an area of the Trieste Karst, costing approximately 62 million, financed with Pnrr funds, was today at the center of a heated debate in the Fourth Council Commission.

“As a regional councilor I have always followed the line of listening to the community and its administrators – said Scoccimarro – just as the entire regional council has always done. I and my colleagues in the Executive do not accept ideological opposition”.

Giulio Bernetti, engineer and municipal official, illustrated the project in detail. Mayor Dipiazza left the room after the intervention of a resident who defined the municipal administration as “arrogant”.

The representatives of the committee instead placed emphasis several times on the geological risks, the economic consequences of the work and the implications linked to the environment, fauna and flora of the area. In conclusion, Giulia Massolino, councilor of the Fvg Civic Autonomy Pact, complained about the delay with which the commission was convened and announced that “the ball passes to the Ministry of the Environment. We hope that the project will be blocked at that level. We also continue to work on the appeals to the TAR which, however, have already produced results due to the lack of a study on the alternatives”.
